Arbeitsmarktsituation für Frauen im ländlichen Raum Ostdeutschlands

Specific labour market problems result from the facts that women are more frequently dismissed from their jobs, and that they have more difficulties in finding a new job, that they are less mobile than men, and that they participate less than proportionally in labour market policy measures. Taking into account women's attitude to work - in the former GDR women had internalised their desire to be gainfully employed - shows the far-reaching consequences of women's discrimination on the labour market. Active labour market policies and advisory policies for women may contribute to increase women's job prospects. Especially in peripheral rural areas public labour market policy measures are and will be of great importance for women's participation in gainful employment . A lasting increase of women's job prospects however depends primarily on the economic prosperity of the regions
