Workshop: Präventiv orientiertes Tierwohlmanagement in der Praxis unterstützen
Animal welfare is of fundamental importance in organic farming. However, the situation regarding animal health is not satisfying. Animal health in organic livestock should be primarily ensured through preventive measures by reducing disease risks through appropriate housing conditions, feeding, management, and breeding. Efficient prevention needs a structured approach and continuous efforts. The implementation of animal welfare planning appears to be useful but is challenging in practice. Successful animal welfare management is demanding for farmers and advisors in terms of knowledge and resources and also in various soft skills related to self-management, motivation and communication. Support should encompass all these dimensions and must be made available comprehensively and sustainably. The workshop will provide an understanding of current challenges and opportunities regarding animal health management. We will discuss possible support initiatives and structures and how they can be established in practice.
