Pflanzengesundheit - eine Herausforderung an den Pflanzenschutz
Aus verschiedenen Gründen bedarf das Instrumentarium des heutigen Pflanzenschutzes der Erweiterung. Über seine Effizienz, d. h. über die Zu- oder Abnahme der relativen Ertragseinbußen, liegen zwar keine ausreichenden Daten vor, doch deutet manches darauf hin, daß sie in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten trotz vermehrten Pflanzenschutzes eher gestiegen als gesunken sind. Pflanzenschutz durch bloße Schaderregerbekämpfung muß ergänzt werden durch Maßnahmen, die unmittelbar der Pflanze und ihrer Gesundheit dienen. Pflanzengesundheit wird als ein Zustand definiert, in dem die Pflanze relativ frei von Schaderregern ist und in dem sie trotz etlicher Belastungen ihre Leistungsfähigkeit nicht eingebüßt hat. Am Beispiel der induzierten Resistenz werden Möglichkeiten zur Erhaltung und Steigerung der Pflanzengesundheit aufgezeigt.
Health is a presupposition for the plant to yield to the maximum of its potential. Plant health is more than the relative freedom of the plant from parasites. In this context it demands a broader concept: plant health describes also the ability of the plant to keep up its productivity in spite of some strains by biotic or abiotic stress factors. As a criterion for the state of health can serve whether the crop loss percentage is increasing or decreasing in a longer period of time. This will also answer the question about the efficacy of the measures used to control plant diseases and pests. Even though only a few reliable datas are available there are some indications that the relative crop losses increased during the last decades in spite of the expansion in amounts of pesticides used in crop production. The situation should cause reflections on the necessity about a long-term change be made in the procedures by which the maintenance of the health of plants is secured. Plant protection by more control of parasites should be upplemented by procedures which effect directly the plant and give them as much resistance or tolerance as possible to various biotic and abiotic stress factors. lnduced resistance is one of the opportunities to approach this ambitious goal.
