The Siberian silk moth Dendrolimus sibiricus does not occur in the territory of the EU. The establishment of the species could have the most serious consequences for the EU. In the future, annual surveys will be carried out for the early detection of an outbreak. The article provides an overview of relevant information for an effective survey of the species. Based on the pest biology (life cycle, host plants, climatic needs) appropriate survey methods, survey times and identification features to discriminate between the domestic pine lappet moth D. pini and D. sibiricus are delineated. The risk locations for the most probable occurrence of D. sibiricus are characterized.
