Rinder- und Schweineställe in den fünf neuen Bundesländern : Qualität der Bausubstanz im Jahr 1989 ; Stand der Investitionstätigkeit in den Jahren 1990 bis 1993

According to the analysis of the state of agricultural buildings of the new Länder in 1989 most of the pig and cow sheds are in a good condition and could be converted into modern stables. Especially the interior equipment including milking machines and roofs have to be reconstructed in most cases to be competitive in a market economy. In the first two years after unification there were only few enterprises in the new Länder investing in animal housing. In the following two years nearly every second enterprise made investments in animal housing especially in dairy keeping. LPG successor organisations prefered to invest in interior equipment while family-farms started to build up completely new sheds. There are only few investments in pig production facilities. Stables which are taken out of production mostly stem from pig production.
