Over the past several years, the development of technical equipment for production, transportation and distribution of water can be identified as being in a phase of consolidation. Technical improvements can be observed only in the details. The economic adaption of irrigating farms in the new German states to the new frame conditions play a dominant role at this time for the irrigation industries and consulting agencies. Standardization efforts in the field of irrigation will in the future also be much more concerned with the tasks and requirements of European standardization (CEN). Water and energy-saving irrigation methods will be increasingly included as part of the decision-making process for the selection of irrigation methods. Limitation of the use of water by farmers intensifies discussions regarding the water-efficiency. After a rather long development pause in drip irrigation technology, there are now two further developments available on the German market whic h enable broad and universal application.
