World market for poultry meat

The growth trends in the poultry market observed during recent years are continuing. From the beginning of the eighties up to 1995 production of poultry meat doubled world-wide. Following a rise in production of 6 % in the year 1996, a similar growth rate is expected in 1997, too. The most important producer countries are the USA, China, the states of the EU and Brazil. Consumption of poultry meat is stimulated by a more favourable price development by comparison with other kinds of meat and efforts by consumers to consume less cholesterol and fewer saturated fats. Increases in sales of convenience products and in the fast-food sector additionally promote the consumption of poultry meat which is particularly suitable for fast preparation.
