Soil moisture sensors in field application - a comparative study

The applicability of soil moisture sensors for irrigation scheduling is affected by several disruptive factors which, in addition to high costs, have prevented their commercial use in the past. Some of these factors and some technical features of the sensors are discussed. A direct comparison of several sensors used under field conditions is presented.
