Eine Betrachtung der beruflichen Handlungskompetenz von Junglandwirt*innen am Beispiel von Tierwohl

Livestock farmers have a responsible job, especially because they are working with living and sentient beings. In addition to knowledge, this requires the right eye for the signals and needs of the animals. At the same time, the topic of animal welfare has so far been underrepresented in farmers vocational education. Furthermore, for many years, on-farm research has shown that animal welfare often does not meet satisfactory levels. An analysis of the framework curriculum and a survey on agricultural training farms in Lower Saxony showed a focus on the aspect of animal health and the effects of animal husbandry systems in the context of animal welfare. Mere knowledge transfer and a one-dimensional use of learning content is an insufficient approach to promote a sense of responsibility toward animals. Purpose and benefits of learning content must be experiential for livestock apprentices. The results of this study will support the development of new concepts of teaching and learning to promote animal welfare competence.
