Groundbreaking news? - analytical insights and lessons learned based on a review of multi-national REDD+ studies

In 2007, REDD+ was launched to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation in developing countries. Today, the process seems to be a crossroad as the broad implementation of results based financing is open. but developing countries are getting ready for a potential future scheme and aim at bringing REDD+ to the ground. Numerous subnational initiatives have established so-called REDD+ projects pro-actively implementing mechanisms that resemble what proponents expect REDD+ to be. Experience is becoming available from both, the formal UNFCCC top down activities and from the bottom up project initiatives and research projects.
