Research on Food Defense in D and the EU

Over the past decade a number of research programs within the EU and Germany addressed research questions related to food defense and safety. Funded research topics ranged from fast and highly sensitive pathogen detection methods to technologies supporting physical security of transport and logistics chains, IT solutions improving information content and exchange, as well as strategies to raise awareness of food safety and defense issues throughout Europe. This talk will provide an overview of selected research projects in the field of food defense in Germany and the EU. Research results selected by way of example will be presented underlining the high “return on investment” of the research initiatives. In conclusion, an outline will be given of research questions that still have to be addressed.
