Forschungsprojekt zu Quecksilber in Fischen Grundstein für Langzeitstudie zum Klimawandel

The current global climate change might influence the metabolism of fish directly, possiblycausing a higher storage of toxic substances such as methylmercury. In order to start the analysis of therelation between potentially higher mercury storage in fish and climate change, the present study examinestypical edible fish from fishing grounds which are highly relevant for European consumers. Analyzingthe data yields the following results: not a single sample exceeded the legal upper limit for total mercuryconcentration. Moreover, the contents of methylmercury did not surmount the recommended toxicologicalbenchmarks of the FAO and WHO. Hence, no sample posed a health hazard under the assumption of averagefish consumption.
