Hämoglobinkonzentration des Blutes neugeborener Kälber : Einflüsse des Alters des Muttertieres, der Haltungsbedingungen und des Geburtsverlaufes

Investigations were done in the dairy herd and the mother cowherd of the institute during the calving period from September till April. Jugular venous blood samples taken from the cow and the calf immediately after birth and in the calf at 24 hours and at 48 hours as well were analyzed for hemoglobin content (Hb). Mean values of Hb were not different in dairy cows and mother cows with different lactation numbers and those of calves were smaller than Hb of cows but not different in calves from cows with lactation number two to nine as well. Only calves from first lactation number cows had smaller mean values of Hb. Differences Hb calf - Hb cow were significantly greater only in first and second lactation number dairy cows than in others. Grouping these differences by birth course showed great scattering in calves of spontaneous birth and in such birth courses where heavy traction was used. The mean value of the difference Hb calf - Hb cow was greater in difficult birth courses than in others. Strong correlations and linear regressions could be found between maternal Hb and the difference Hb calf - Hb cow in dairy cows and between Hb of calf and the difference Hb calf - Hb cow generally.
