This report describes the situation of animal welfare in farmer cattle keeping systems in Germany. In future loose housing systems will compensate the traditional tie stall systems. The situation of animal welfare in available keeping systems is mentioned. Missings according to the correct dimensions inside the buildings are found. Also in extensive keeping systems there is a lack of animal welfare, if the keeper does not understand the essential demands of his cattle. Technical equipments can help organizing the work in cattle houses. Examples are given. Animal welfare in cattle keeping can be achieved, if all people, who are involved in cattle keeping, are working together.
