Präventiv orientiertes Tierwohlmanagement in der Praxis unterstützen
Animal health and welfare of organic livestock should be primarily ensured through preventative measures. Animal welfare planning is a promising approach, but its’ implementation in practice is challenging. Therefore, this workshop focused intensively on supporting approaches towards implementation of those preventative animal welfare management practices. At the beginning, two short presentations outlined backgrounds, challenges, and supportive approaches in other countries. Participants then identified success and risk factors for the implementation of animal welfare management during group discussions. Key findings emphasized the crucial role of farmers' motivation, required skills and available resources. Economic incentives, education, exchange and regulatory measures emerged as supportive strategies. The variety of factors identified highlights the need for a multidimensional approach that includes economic incentives, educational initiatives, accessibility of data and know-how, and policy interventions to effectively promote preventative animal welfare management strategies.
