Unveiling Opportunities : Change Management in Libraries and its Impact on Scholarly Communication
The poster will illustrate that change management is not only an instrument for increasing efficiency but also serves as a catalyst for an in-depth analysis of existing work processes and for promoting dialogue with stakeholders, which can lead to a reprioritization of the library's tasks. While the library was initially only interested in increasing efficiency when introducing a new workflow, the entire area of scholarly communication was ultimately awakened from its slumber. The poster will explain the new workflow for recording the research institute's publications using the institutional repository that was developed after the hiring of two new librarians and the reassignment of responsibility for the annual publication statistics to the library. It will also show how this new workflow facilitated communication between the library and stakeholders, highlighting the need for information on secondary publication rights and (CC-)licenses. The poster will show that the primary goal of the library was no longer just to optimize the workflow but also to satisfy the information needs of the stakeholders. It will point out that, while the information needs of the authors and the data entry staff partly overlapped, they were focused on different aspects. This poster can serve as an example for other libraries on how the reorganization of work processes can act as a catalyst for communication, especially between different departments. This can not only help in using tight personnel resources more efficiently but also provide new impetus for work areas and anchor the importance of the library more firmly within an institution.
