Critical evaluation

The results presented at the workshop were critically evaluated. The establishment of tissue culture cell lines for the production of bovine leukosis virus is considered a great step forward in bovine leukosis research. The characterization of bovine C-type-like particles was stressed, and the importance of isolation and purification of protein reacting with antibodies of leukotic cattle was discussed. In this context the immunodiffussion and immunofluorescence tests as well as other seroogical methods were discussed as diagnostic tools. Some aspects of the pathogenesis and epidemiology of bovine leukosis were considered, and open questions posed which demand further research work.
