Specific and highly sensitive diagnostic methods are particularly needed during the acute phase of an outbreak. This is all the more true when diseases of pandemic proportions are involved and both humans and animals are affected. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the COVRIN project focuses on the detection and characterization of SARS-CoV-2 in animal and environmental samples. From these data, risk assessments can be made and strategies developed that will lead to increased vigilance against coronavirus outbreaks and more rapid responses.

This report describes the results of an interlaboratory testing addressing the immunological detection of the SARS-CoV-2 antigens, which can be used for detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigens in samples from animals (D.1.2.1 of the COVRIN project).
