New, locally produced sources of the limiting crude protein are needed to reach 100% of organic feeding. Vetches (Vicia sativa L.) show higher contents of protein than field beans and peas and were grown in an intercropping system. Vicia sativa L. was grown with spring wheat and rye at different seed densities. The best yield performance was shown by vetch-wheat-mixtures with seed densities of 25:75 and 50:50 (vetch:wheat) with yields of 31.9 and 26.33 dt ha-1, respectively. The HEB-Index, which describes the extent to which a crop slumps over a growing season, demonstrates that the more cereals are included, the higher the index level and the height of the crop stand for harvesting are.
