Utilization of wood resources in biomass heat and power plants in the context of market developments

An overview on wood use in heat and power plants will be provided in the context of German wood market developments. Data derive from profound field research and continuous monitoring activity. In our research we compare magnitudes of wood energy use in Biomass Heat and Power Plants (BHPP) and private households. The wood resource mix of BHPP is very much influenced by the size of plants and varies over time. Information of this wood resource mix is an important precondition for the evaluation of sustainable wood use. The development was strongly affected by subsidies which will expire around the year 2023 with effects on waste wood demand.
