Opinion of the Scientific Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed on the safety of the enzymatic product Avizyme® 1500 for use as feed additive for turkeys for fattening

Avizyme 1500 contains xylanase derived from genetically modified Trichoderma longibrachiatum, subtilisin (protease) derived from genetically modified Bacillus subtilis, alpha-amylase produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and polygalacturonase produced by Aspergillus aculeatus. Avizyme 1500 consists of approximately 10% enzyme preparation stabilized onto approximately 90% wheat carrier, and is intended for inclusion in feed rich in starch and non-starch polysaccharides (mainly arabinoxylans and beta-glucans). It has been provisionally authorised for chickens for fattening. A tolerance test carried out with male turkeys for fattening over a 15 day period with the recommended dose (1 g kg-1) and 15X overdose (15 g kg-1) of Avizyme 1500. Although no evidence of any adverse effect on performance or mortality was seen, FEEDAP considers the duration of the study (15 days) to be too short to conclude on the safety of this product for the turkeys.
