Opinion of the Scientific Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed on the safety of the enzymatic product Avizyme 1300 for use as feed additive for ducks

Avizyme 1300 “two times concentrate” is a multi-enzyme preparation, supplied in a dry form. It contains xylanase derived from genetically modified Trichoderma longibrachiatum and subtilisin (protease) derived from genetically modified Bacillus subtilis. The product is provisionally authorised for the inclusion in cereal-based diets for chicken for fattening, turkeys and laying hens. The notifier is now seeking an authorisation for Avizyme 1300 for its inclusion in cereal-based diets for ducks to be used throughout the life of the animal. A tolerance test carried out with ducks over a 6 week period with the recommended dose (1 g kg-1) and 15X overdose (15 g kg-1) of Avizyme 1300 produced no evidence of any adverse effect on performance or mortality. Therefore FEEDAP Panel concluded that the safety of Avizyme 1300 for ducks has been demonstrated.
