German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology honors Prof. Thomas Mettenleiter : FLI Press Release 12/2013

Insel Riems, 23 September 2013. In the frame of the opening session of its Annual Meeting in Rostock, the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM) yesterday honored Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Thomas C. Mettenleiter, President of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI), as “DGHM-Lecturer 2013” for his merits in infection research. The prize was awarded in recognition of his outstanding and internationally renowned molecular biological research on the interaction of important veterinary viruses and host cells and his contribution to the development of the FLI as one of the worldwide leading research institutions in the field of animal health. „I am delighted to accept this award granted by colleagues, which I regard not only as a tribute to my work as scientist and President, but also as an appreciation of the work of the entire Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut.”, says Thomas Mettenleiter. The “DGHM-Lecturer” award is given to renowned scientists in infection research, immunology or hygiene.
