Biometrie, Kronenarchitektur, Blattphotosynthese und Kronendachtranspiration von Buche und Eiche im Einzugsgebiet "Steinkreuz"

Studies of the Department of Plant Ecology in the Steigerwald were carried out in the BITÖK main investigation site Steinkreuz (1.29 ha fenced area) and in the stand Großebene (0.31 ha canopy-projected area), the latter being 1300m NW of the former in similiar altitude and exposition (2° SE-slope, 460m asl; see Table 26 for characteristics). Oaks were limited to diameters between 25cm and 50cm in both stands, dominating most of these diameter classes in both stands. In Steinkreuz beech occupied the largest diameter classes (classes 55-70cm; Fig. 56). Leaf area index (LAI) of the canopy varied from year to year between 12-19% (Großebene) and 3-9% (Steinkreuz; Table 27) and was on average 6.4. Oaks in both stands had shorter crowns and smaller projected crown areas than beech trees of similar stem diameter (fig. 58)...
