Resistenzverhalten von Enterokokken aus Proben deutscher Schlachttiere
In the years 2000 and 2001 samples of fattening cattle, pigs and broilers were collected in different parts of Germany at slaughter. In total, 551 enterococcal strains were isolated and differentiated to the species level. Moreover, 200 Enterococcus faecalis and 74 Enterococcus faecium isolates were selected for susceptibility testing by MIC determination (Sensititre(R)). Overall, enterococci isolated from broilers were more resistant than those isolated from cattle and pigs. Vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) were found rarely in pig samples and more often in faecal samples of German broilers. Enterococci from pigs and broilers were frequently resistant to avilamycin, bacitracin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin and tetracyclin. More than 50 % of Enterococcus faecium isolates were resistant to Synercid(R)
